Psychology (心理學博士)

我本未想過正式讀心理學。大學一年級的時候，那科「心理學入門」是早上八時半的課，分明阻撓我去認識它。後來有了點人生體會，看多了書，好像《熱鍋上的家庭》(Napier & Whitaker, 1988)、《家庭會傷人》(Bradshaw, 1990) 和《心靈地圖》(Peck, 2002) 等，以及各種小說與傳記體的心理學叢書。其中很多值得推介，好像談到「解離性人格症」(Dissociative Identity Disorder；舊稱「多重人格」，不同於「精神分裂症」) 的《二十四個比利》(Keyes, 1982) 與下集《比利戰爭》(因版權問題，還未出英文版)；關於在虐待與寄養中成長，還未有中譯本的 Dave Pelzer 三部曲 (Pelzer, 1995; 1997; 2000)；述說患有精神分裂的父親的《當天使穿著黑衣出現》(Lachenmeyer, 2001)；模擬自閉天才兒童的小說《深夜小狗神秘習題》(Haddon, 2004)；還有無數關於絕症與死亡的書，令我對心理學多了些正確的認識。

這些書，單看副標題便能引起人們的興趣：「探索父親與精神病摶鬥的過去」、「一個寄養孩子尋找家庭的溫暖的故事」、「愛、傳統價值、與靈性成長的新心理學」等。心理學家，原來也不止是只會開抗抑鬱藥的精神科醫生 (Psychiatrist)，也不一定是坐在你對面輔導你的 Insight Therapist，好像差點笑死我的電影《教父咪搞》(Analyze This!) 裏的臨床心理學家 (Clinical Psychologist)。心理學家還有搞輔導的 (Counseling Psychologist)、教育的 (Education/School Psychologist)、組織的 (Industrial-Organizational Psychologist)、與很多其他更有趣和有人性的應用。

如果你有興趣讀心理學，我建議你先看看這些沒有那麼嚴肅的書；到真的想認真讀，你可能考慮讀全日制學士。如果你已經大學畢業，你可以選擇一個一年制的後學士證書 (Post-Graduate Certificate) 課程，讀畢便能入讀碩士。香港和所有舊英聯邦建度下的大學都有提供。我知道有友人也去了英國讀這個證書課程。但如果你覺得為了興趣而放棄一年收入好像不很符合經濟原則，你可以選擇讀美國的函授心理學碩士或博士課程。好像 Walden 和另一間歷史沒那麼久的 Capella，都有認可 (Accredited) 的網上博士課程 (暫時亦只有這兩間)，讀畢可以考臨床執業的牌照 (Licensure)。要執業，學士畢業是不夠的，所以有認可的函授博士課程是最可行的選擇。而實際上，考 GRE Psychology 是不需要的，除非你要入讀排名最高的三數間大學。

認識很多人，常常想進修、增值，卻又不能坐言起行，浪費了大好青春，實在可惜。其實今天科技那麼發達，要留在家中上網讀一個學位，甚至碩士或博士，實在不難。有興趣可到 Peterson's Distance Learning 搜尋一下。如特別對心理學的選校與就業有興趣，可看 John Suler, Ph.D. 的 Graduate School and Careers in Psychology。
